In Irish tradition the Shamrock or Three-leaf Clover represents the Holy Trinity: one leaf for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Holy Spirit. The trefoil is also sacred to Morgana, Branwen and Brigid, giving this triple leafed plant, a triune of Goddesses associated with it. Three may have signified totality: past, present and future / behind, before and here / sky, earth and underworld. Everything good in Ireland comes in threes. The rhythm of story telling in the Irish tradition is based on threefold repetition.
